Abstract

The frequency of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) has been increasing in recent years. The global incidence and prevalence vary based on regional and ethnic structures, socioeconomic conditions, age, and gender. In global prevalence, the number of cases has been observed to be higher for females than males, and the prevalence rate of cases standardised according to age has been observed to be similar for both genders. In terms of mortality, an increase in mortality has been observed in IBD patients in the last 30 years. The non-mortal burden of IBD has increased even if the mortality burden is still very low. In a projection for the next 25 years, the prevalence of IBD is projected to increase in all regions of Asia except South Asia.
